CCLS is part of the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science. SEAS offers broad-based instruction within a major research university and is ideally suited to educate tomorrow's engineering leaders and encourage technical literacy. SEAS engineering and applied science programs, which are among the nation's oldest and most influential, embrace new technologies and interdisciplinary possibilities. Innovative approaches, including computer-assisted design, the use of "smart" materials, and collaborations with other Columbia departments and schools are opening frontiers in an expanding host of fields: from financial engineering to corrosion control, cryogenic manufacturing to biomedical engineering.

As part of a world-class teaching and research university, SEAS strives to provide the best in both undergraduate and graduate education. Innovative research programs and growth in faculty are energizing the disciplines and paving the way for such important interdisciplinary efforts as earth engineering, photonics, biomedical engineering, materials science, and new media technologies. Students at all levels are given opportunities to share in the excitement of new disciplines and new directions within established fields. Through a synergy of teaching and research, we seek to educate a distinguished cadre of leaders in technology and applied science, and to promote preeminence at the cutting edge.
